Professional quality – This item was purchased as a joke for my elderly sister, who claims as a young girl In elementary school, she always wished she could play a tambourine. I was very impressed when I opened the package, to see and feel a high-quality musical instrument. Sister was delighted! Highly recommend.

Thought I had received a novelty item… – First of all, I can say my expectations were not high, and reading other reviews, I am merely confirming what others have found. Upon unboxing and giving the tambourine a first jingle, I though I had purchased a sort of novelty item as this hardly sounds like a tambourine.

good buy! – I bought this for my friend’s birthday, and it seemed to be a good buy. The sound is good, it’s the right size for an adult, and it has a nice, classic look. It’s a little awkward to hold, but I’ll take that up with whoever invented the tambourine in the first place. 🙂

Very nice, but beware of broken tams! – I ordered three of these altogether, and had to send two of the three back because they were poorly constructed. The nails had shattered the tam and splintered the wood. Disappointing. I received two replacements very quickly, and the three I have now are entirely satisfactory. I like their sound and their look, and I’ve received several compliments on them, both in class and after performances. I would order more. However, I’d suggest planning ahead…don’t wait until the last minute to order them, as you may need to send ’em back!

Nice Tambourine, Not high quality though – I bought this tambourine for my wife a few months ago because we were helping our close friend get engaged. We “surprised” them by playing their song at the coffee shop they had their first date at.

Stands up to furious hip bumping – Okay look, I know nothing about tambourines in any serious sense. I just needed one for a Stevie Nicks costume. This one did fine, it seems sturdy and didn’t break despite vigorous recreations of live Edge of Seventeen performances.

Buy a name brand for a few bucks more. – Fit and finish is poor. Each set of jingles is held in place by a nail with the head ground off and the shank punched down into the wood frame. Mine arrived with one of those nails fallen out and the jingles loose. If shipping vibrations caused one of the nails to fall out, then surely this thing will not last long enough to justify even a $17 price tag. If this were a free or hand-me-down tambourine, then I would fix it and move on…but I don’t care for fixing things which I purchase under the assumption that the product will work to begin with.
