This mandolin does have a truss rod. – I panicked after first ordering this because I started reading reviews and found one that said it had no truss rod; and I had heard Amazon had some inexpensive mandolins that had truss rods which is why I ordered. Anyway, I posted photos too so you can see the spot where you access it. All in all it’s an awesome mandolin

Ok for beginners – The mandolin was received without damage. I wouldn’t say the packaging was sufficient to keep it from damage. I think I was lucky. It was in the gig bag which I’m sure helped protect it some. The finish on the body of the mandolin had some flaws where it didn’t get a good smooth coat, two areas the size of a pencil eraser. I have never played mandolin before, but I have played guitar and it seems to have trouble holding tune for very long in comparison to my experience with guitar. The 1st g string is not seated well and creates a wonky noise when struck from vibration against the frets. It is probably fine for learning. The gig bag is nice looking and seems protective, but make crinkle noises like paper when touched. No big deal, just odd. Overall I’m satisfied for what I paid, for what I received.

Very happy with mando – This thing is amazing. A couple quick internet searches will tell you the same thing I’m about to, but here goes. This is the optimal choice for new players at an entry price-point. The quality of this item is well above what I was expecting. It looks beautiful and appears to have no defects or flaws in its manufacture. I’m a mandolin beginner and this was the right choice. It isn’t rough on my fingers like I’ve read some cheap instruments can be. The tuner and gig bag are a pretty big bonus on top of everything.

Great for beginners! – This is a good little mando for begging musicians. If you’re looking for high quality or you know instruments well it’s a bit lackluster but if you are looking to get started in music or want to feel out the mandolin it’s a good starter.

Awesome! – I absolutely love this mandolin! It’s beautifully crafted, it tuned right up, and it’s a joy to play! I think it’s a great addition to our home. I’m really glad I bought it!

It was for my sons birthday. He loved it. – Loved the craftmanship. The wood is so beautiful and had a lovely tone I’m very happy with the Donner.

Great mandolin for the money! – Great for beginners. I went through a standard set up procedure (newbie, first time, and after a few tools it works pretty well. The set up I received was by visiting mandolin cafe online and Reddit), to basically cut some deeper but grooves and sand the bridge. I then changed strings the the D’Addario EJ74. After tuning it up, still had some buzzing on the G string so I adjusted the saddle a little higher to compensate and overall, this little guys works pretty darn well. Still some faint buzzing on the G, and a little on the D string, but overall the intonation is great (checking at the 12th fret) and stays tuned. Great beginning mandolin. I may not have even had to go through the setup, except for trying to resolve the buzzing and wanting to drop my action so my. Fingers didn’t hurt.

Great for a Test Drive – I ordered this mandolin as a “test drive” to see if I’d like the mandolin. For the price point, I wasn’t expecting much more than functional, but the instrument had a surprisingly good tone out of the box. It also keeps is tuning extremely well. However, if you’re going to get super serious you will eventually have to upgrade, as the action (distance between the string and fretboards) is set so high that you can’t get it low enough even at the bridge’s lowest position. The upper two courses also appear to have nylon strings which will get very bitey after more than 10-15 minutes of play, particularly while you’re still developing your callouses.
