Rated 5 out of 5
F. H (verified owner)–
4″ cha-cha and 6″ mambo – imported directly from Puerto Rico – I’ve always played on “contra-compana,” the traditional Afro-Cuban style of playing the accompaniment, or “compana”, on the larger (typically six to eight inches in length) mambo bell, while playing the counterpoint, or “contra”, on the smaller (typically four to six inches in length) cha-cha bell. So, I’ve played on three different sets over the years, namely, Latin Percussion Brand, Zildjian and Toca. All of these sets were the traditional, pyramid-shaped cowbells. This is my first foray in playing the Salsa-style bells. The four-inch, cha-cha bell is a very high pitched bell, roughly the same pitch as the Lp Tapon (Low Rider by War). If it were any higher, it would be a special effects bell only. The tone of the bell is quite dry. You probably will not require any external muffling at all.
