Was a good investment for me. – A few months ago, I picked up a Squier Affinity Strat with the express intent of modifying it. I just this week added Hipshot locking tuners (they’re great, btw) and today added these pickups that I had had since February, but hadn’t had time to install. One quick note – the description says this is white. It’s not, it’s more of a cream color, and the pickup covers are even less white. Given that my guitar is bright red, and came with a very white pickguard, I just decided to swap everything into the pickguard that came with the guitar. Easy swap. I had to enlarge the holes for the volume and tone pots. Took about one second for each hole, with a 3/8 drill bit. I thought about this, but then it dawned on me I was putting genuine Fender parts into a Squier, and they’re intentionally not the same. Btw, the volume and tone knobs that came with the guitar are also slightly too small, but I had some other white Fender knobs, and they fit perfectly. Same with the pickup covers. Bottom line – with minimal heartburn, I was able to swap all the parts into the Squier pickguard, and now the guitar looks like it did when I bought it.

Great fender tone without the buzz – While some reviewers complain the “noiseless” is not as pure, I upgraded to this from standard alnico single coils on a player plus and there is a clear improvement. From biting hard brights to woman tone, they are great and of course dont generate the noise of single coils. All 5 positions are authentic, especially the warmth of the neck and the hendrix-esque tone of Neck/Middle out of phase at medium gain through a Fender blues junior. Would always pick noiseless going forward

  3. B. K (verified owner)

Had some issues with the neck pick-up – Easy installation, had so issues with the neck pick-up.

Neck and Middle Sound Great but Middle Pickup is Not Reverse Wound – Super Easy to install. Overall it sounds good. However, the middle pickup wasn’t reverse wound so you don’t get hum cancellation in positions 2 and 4. It’s not the end of the world, but I should have read the reviews ahead of time. Lastly, the pickups are kind of cream colored, so they look a little odd/ugly in combination with the bright white pickguard.

57/62 Great Sound. Lower Tone Knob Affects Both Bridge and Middle. 2&4 Positions Not Hum Cancelling – Sounds great. Upgrade from a Japanese strat with ceramic pickups. Much cleaner, sparklier, glassier sound.

Not enough room routed in a Squier Bullet Strat – While I was discussing the situation with Amazon, I was having the Pre-wired Pickguard checked out by a Luthier who actually never got around to checking it. I went and picked up my guitar and decided to troubleshoot the problem myself. The output from the neck and bridge pickups were very low. Usually, pickups will read in the range of approximately 7 to 10 K-ohms. The center pickup read 9+ K-ohms and sounded great but the other two pickups read less than 2 K-ohms each. Highly unusual! Removing the Pre-Wired Pickguard from the guitar revealed normal readings on all three pickups. I had previously purchased a very inexpensive Squier Bullet Strat to use while busking without fear of damage or theft. I discovered that, due to limited space routed in the Squier Bullet, the problem arose from a short between a resistor (attached to the unusually double height volume potentiometer and the Squier body ground wire screw. This will not be an issue if the unit is installed in a typical Stratocaster with adequately routed depth. An alternative would be to cover the ground wire screw with electrical tape. I opted to swap the components from a Fender American Standard Stratocaster I own (pickups, potentiometers, 5-way switch etc.) into the Squier and place the Shawbucker Pre-wired Pickguard into the American Standard body. Except for the plain white pickguard temporarily replacing the 4-ply black pearl pickguard I preferred, I was mostly pleased with the results. Therefore, I am keeping the original Fender Shawbucker / Gen 4 Noiseless HSS Pre-wired Stratocaster Pickguard and returning the untouched, unopened, second unit shipped to me by Amazon as a replacement for what we mistakenly assumed was a defective unit. You gotta love Amazon! They gave me zero grief by making the transaction painless. I wish I had determined the issue sooner. Live and learn.

57/62 The real Deal – As mostly a Gibson guy the last few years I got into Strats a few months ago. Really took to them but wanted the quintessential strat sound without paying for an American Pro. Put this into my strat build and WOW!!!! Such clear clean tones all over the place. Where are my Stevie Ray backtracks!? Took about 15 minutes to swap out and an hour to solder the jack and ground…not because it was difficult but because I can’t solder the simplest things for some reason. Guitar went from 7lb 2.14 oz to 7lb 3.2 oz. so quality can be light too!

Fender Gen 4 – Solid product; however, it did not fit my application. Returned and awaiting refund.
