It Works, but it’s Not real sturdy – This product is good, not great. It works as a thumb rest on the bass I installed it on, but it’s really made out of flimsy plastic. In other words, it’s not a solid chunk of plastic. Screwing it onto the instrument, it is a good idea not to over-tighten the screws. In other words, hand tighten only, do not use a power tool. Other than that, it has worked fine once I got it installed.

Fits the Squire as well – My primary concern was an alignment with a standard pickguard that was predrilled for this on a Squire Custom Vibe Fretless Jazz bass. It fit perfectly.

Life Is Better with a Thumb Rest – Some bass guitars have nice, thick pick-ups with smooth edges that are comfortable to use as thumb rests. Not all Fender basses have those, but Fender makes this plastic thumb rest that works well. Like most DIY installations, however, the instructions leave something to be desired (see attached photo). First, the recommended location would make the thumb rest crooked and too far from the pick-ups, where many bassists play. Second, if they described the “scrap piece of wood” as a 5-inch square of 1/4-inch plywood, how they expect you to use it would be more obvious. Most importantly, the 3/32-inch drill bit they say to use would not anchor the screws securely enough. I recommend using a 1/16-inch bit for drilling into the body of the guitar. The 5/32 bit they recommend for drilling through the pick guard is fine, though.

Lightweight hollow plastic thumbrest – Standard installation. I used one of the existing holes in the pick guard, so only had to drill one extra hole in the pick guard and bass. The top of the rest sits even with the strings. Not what I prefer now that I have it installed. Since the rest is essentially hollow, its an easy mod to make it more the height of the pickup.

Lo Nesecitaba para mí Bajo. – Me agrado porque es un Artículo Original.

Cheap light plastic, but fits and works. – Looks the part. Being fender branded it was nice knowing it would be an exact fit for the pre drilled holes on a Classic Series 50s P. It was. Screws were the right spacing and length and all that.

Cheap, but effective – I am pretty sure the “original” models of these were made of wood. At least, in the bass I learned to play on, it felt like lacquered wood. This one is thin, hollow plastic, and it feels very flimsy when it’s not attached. However, getting it properly and securely screwed in, it’s perfectly solid, and performs its intended task just as it should. I’m not completely happy with how it looks, because it still looks cheap and mass-produced, but it also IS cheap and mass-produced, so what do you want? If you wanted a better quality one you could probably make one yourself out of wood and it probably wouldn’t cost a lot more than this prefab part, but this is ready to go in minutes. Installation was a snap, even without the included template, and I had it positioned and screwed into place in probably less than 3 minutes. And I can’t even remember what it was like to not play with it. I mounted it, perhaps, a tad closer to the E string than I probably should have, but I probably also don’t need to hammer the E hard enough to make it vibrate against the thumbrest, either. As a functional item, this does the job. But if you’ve got a really expensive instrument and you want a really good looking part, I’d probably look in to custom fabrication over this. If you’ve already spent over a thousand on an instrument to begin with, you can probably pony up for the $20 getting a lacquered wood thumbrest made to match the rest of the instrument.
