Absolute must for heavier Strat bridge pickup tones! – The TBX is tried and true with me for years. No battery required, under-the-hood mod not visible at face value. Want more mids? Simple design cuts highs and lows, making mids pronounced, not boosted. Strat too bright in the bridge? Here’s your solution. Inexpensive and effective. Gigging Strat’sters should all have this mod, makes your sound pallette even more diverse!!!

EXPANDED TONE CAPABILITY – Stock guitar pickups always see a slight load due to the way they are wired. These pots and the way they are wired allow you to have stock wiring and sound up to the number 5 position and at 10 there is no more load which is perceived as clarity or brightness (if you want it.) The transitions are clean and the installation is not difficult if you can solder. Highly recommended for tone nerds like me. Installed two of these in my 70s Strat with vintage pickups. The upper one for the neck and the lower one for the middle and bridge pickups.

If you’ve never used one, it’s worth experimenting with. – The tonal options it provides are fantastic. Hi-Pass adds an airy crispness and clarity that I couldn’t get before. Low-Pass takes the neck pickup on my tele all the way to fuzz producing lows, which is outstanding. It’s not the same sound as a standard tone pot, but for the price, it’s worth experimenting. It’s a keeper for me.

It’s in the way that you use it…. – ….that’s a lil’ Clapton joke there…..sorry. I posted a picture of the Phostenix mod of “Doc’s mod”. It’s kinda’ half grease bucket half TBX. ….I put this is in two of my strats (the ones that didn’t already have one…soon to be three…which is why I am on this page now)….and love it. For the .022uF I use a Sprauge 196p Vitamin Q, for the .001 I use a MojoTone Vitamin T oil cap…cause I can’t find a vitamin Q in that uF. What this mod does…you have actual tone control…across the board….and still have growl even when you are cutting frequencies. It (the modification from the standard Strat TBX diagram) does make the guitar signal a little lower, so you have to turn the amp (or board or pedal or signal processor…you get the idea)…up a bit to compensate….and unless you have one of those pig box amps….. that clip to your belt…who cares…because it gives you tone CONTROL….it doesn’t sound like you threw a pillow over the amp cutting highs…and the lows roll off evenly.

Effective way to increase tonal flexibility. – The TBX functions wonderfully. For a passive guitar control, it provides a tremendous amount of flexibility. I play a MIM Strat, and there is always one of two problems with a traditional tone pot. Either the neck is a little too muddy, or the bridge makes you grind your teeth. The TBX allows me to add some high end clarity to my neck pickup which I really like. I can then switch to the bridge and roll off the treble as much as I need to keep it from getting too piercing.

Crazy good tone – First off I ordered this and it came in and felt very loose but I ignored that as this was the first one I have ever messed with. When I was installing it the whole thing came apart in my hands so I returned it and quickly got a replacement that felt very different then the first. The new TBX pot is nice and tight and you the detent is very noticeable which is something else I now know was wrong with the first one. Now if you know what you are doing installation is easy and I installed this in a telecaster. What I noticed is that when this thing is all the way on it has amazing tone once I hit the detent though or less it looses to much volume. This maybe because of the schematics I am going to keep messing with it so I will let you know.

It is what you expect — but it isn’t the same size as the stock item I was replacing. – It’s exactly what you expect. Same quality as stock Fender. Looks like it’s made by CTS, though I didn’t confirm that. Anyway it works.

Real CTS pot – Real CTS pot and the same components Fender uses in their high end gear. Works great. The instructions are AWFUL but check youtube for installation videos and you’ll get the hang. It’s not hard if you can solder.
