I like the book. It is a good challenge. – I’ve been playing guitar in groups almost 60 years, including Pop, Rock, Jazz, Blues, and Big Band. Many of the songs are great and the arrangements are not unfamiliar, but the stretch factor is a bit much when you’ve got 5 or 6 frets in the same chord form. I know enough to realize what song some adjustments in the notes can work. But first impression is that these are not totally “easy” but for someone who does not read score (I am completely self-taught and can’t read a chord written in score), the Tabulature is greatly appreciated. This book is giving me some new, solo arrangements of familiar tunes I played before but only with 20 others in a large group. A good chance for constructive challenge to restretch my fingers. Never stop playing and embrace a challenge for a longer life.. but be patient with yourself.

Awesome book. – Nice book for people who want to explore jazz standards. It is clear and not too complicated.

For intermediate level players this is doable. – I bought this book to learn real classic standards. Having a teacher to guide you will help but if you primarily use the notes and not the tabs it will help as well obviously providing you can read music notations. Don’t be afraid to use voicing and fingering you are more comfortable with, after all, that’s what most jazz greats do anyway. You do not have to follow exactly as this book is transcribed.

Full of interesting content for the lower intermediate jazz guitarist – I wouldn’t say these would be your “first” 50 solo jazz standards — they are not at the beginning jazz guitarist level and certainly not the beginning guitarist level. There is another book, “First Jazz Standards (Beginning Solo Guitar)” that is the right thing for new jazz players (but still not new guitarists). That latter book is about at my current level (jazz beginner/guitar intermediate).

Easy to play arrangements – Nice collection of (generally) easy to play arrangements. Has helped me learn some new voicings and ways to harmonize melodies. There’s a few fingering notes on the stave as well, which is helpful.

Challenging book. Not for beginners at all! – Pretty challenging book. Not for beginners at all! More appropriate for intermediate-advanced players. I am now struggling with a part of “Fly Me to the Moon” that has 13 chords in 3 bars! If you’re playing this at a moderate tempo that’s more than one chord per second. That said, I am enjoying the arrangements and I am having fun trying to understand what the author had in mind. I’d recommend this if you are already a jazz player or are already familiar with jazz chord voicings.

poorly arranged and uninteresting arrangements – I think I bought other Hal Leonard music books and experienced the same thing. Uninteresting and boring arrangements – they must have gotten some 1st year college music student to put these together.

Being able to see inside the book before purchase, also including tabs with each song – These songs are just RIGHT! A higher level of difficulty, but, so far, worth the effort.
