Works better with modification – The fingerboard is not very sensitive, and requires hard pressing, unless you remove the plastic clear strip from the fingerboard. If you remove the plastic clear strip from the fingerboard, and super glue the top of the strip so it doesn’t move around, the instrument is much easier to play and much more sensitive.

fun to play with – makes funny noises, but the battery runs out so quickly.

Great gift – I wanted to add 1 more thing to my friends gifts and this was the best choice. You don’t have to be a musician to play it and it’s a really funny guft. Would buy again

Really fun to annoy your parents. – This is a great product for your child to learn music in a fun way. Even though it’s a little chunky, you just have to squeeze the finger board a little bit. Although it’s a little annoying, your kids will find it super fun.

Great Gift – Got this for my sister as a gift, she loved it, the big one might be better if you want to play actual songs though

Somewhat of a Disappointment – After following the story of this cute device’s journey, we were pretty excited to actually try one out ourselves. The packaging certainly is cute and promises a unique musical adventure unlike any traditional instruments. However, the gulf between concept and actual execution (at least with our entry-level unit) appears to be quite vast. While operation and controls are clearly marked, getting any sound out of the Otamatone is tricky. I had to literally mash a finger down fairly hard to get any response from the unit (unlike the demonstration video which makes the touch panel appear much more responsive). Perhaps that is a factor of the cheaper introduction unit versus the pro model. After a frustrating hour of mashing and battery changes (trying different brands in the hope that this might make a difference), and hearing about 3 burp noises, we decided that this is probably not quite what we had hoped for. Great concept, but some work is certainly needed with respect to the sensitivity of the touch panel. Cute mouth though!
