Worth the couple extra bucks – I’m sure everyone has used the $2 string winders out of the bin on the checkout counter in your local music shop. This one is definitely worth the couple extra dollars, theres no screw in it to tighten like those cheapo ones that constantly come loose. Plus it has a very convenient bridge pin puller.

If you don’t have bridge pins on your instrument, this probably won’t make your day, but if you do, it’s okay. It is designed for acoustic guitars, and the crank will not clear adjacent tuners if they’re spaced closely. If you change strings all day long, this should endure at least a week of that. It certainly does not have the feel or heft of some some of that beautiful German engineering, but then, it doesn’t cost $100 either.

It beats winding by hand, but – I’d never used a winder before and found changing strings tedious at best. So, I needed an inexpensive item to get free shipping and I thought, “Give it a try.” It does work, and it beats the heck out of winding by hand alone. This one, however, bumps on the adjacent tuners a fair amount, which is annoying. It’s a design issue. It works so I gave it three stars. For the price it’s fine. Next time I’ll look for one that has a shaft coming straight back from the part that slips over the tuner, maybe 3/4″ or so before it offsets to clear the other tuners.

its OK – it works as described but very flimsy plastic

Works fine thanks. – What can you say, it’s a string winder. It did it’s job and wound the strings.

Nothing Special – Using this string winder on my Fender Stratocaster is okay, but it tends to slip off of the tuning pegs. It does the job, but it seems like it doesn’t save all that much effort than if you just used your fingers to wind the strings. Not something I’d buy again if this one broke or got lost.

This is the Review to Read! – Very smooth. Has a shaft that extends the length of the body, so it handles the torque well; I wound the peg fast and hard with no problems. Cuts my string changing time by 2 thirds. Very comfortable, cannot say how much I like this thing. Shubb makes awesome stuff; more quality than other brands. By the way, please do not think I am one of those Guitar Center idiots, or the idiots that think it’s the best store ever. I hate crap and people and companies that sell crap. I know my stuff (Gibson LP Custom (modified to proper), running through a 1971 Ampeg V4: New Jersey Factory, Aluminum Knobs…Respect), and I can tell you that this is the best hand winder I can find. If you know of better, let me know before I buy two more of these. I doubt I’ll hear from you.

Light and squeaks like mad – I bought this winder based on the positive reviews on Amazon. Oh boy, I was disappointed.
